Hello All,

I am finally ready to upgrade from my 4720 cab to the 5083e, I have fount several units and one dealer has a 2011 & 2012 equally equiped. The 2011 has about 160 more hours than the 2012, however the cost difference if about 5k less for the 2011. The 2012 still has 14 months warranty though and the cab looks nicer but not sure its 5k nicer. Were there any major changes that anyone knows of ????

Thanks

Mike

Wish I could help with the differences. When did they change the cab on the 5083E's? Was that for the 2012's or 2013's?

What makes you want to upgrade to the 5083? I'd like to upgrade as well, mostly so I can bring my boy along in the buddy seat! (That and FEL capacity)

my reason is size and HP as I have started haying again. The Cab layout seems to be the biggest change that I see.

Might be some differences in the EPA Tier III on the 2011 and the EPA Tier Interim IV on the 2012. Not exactly sure what that might entail but it might be something to ask the dealer about.

For the amount of coin you are talking here I'd want to find out what happened to both of the first owners (or renters). There are plenty of reasons to want to sell a tractor long before you're through the payment book but some are much better then others from the next buyers point of view. Knowing the truth about each machines history would help you pick. A chat on the phone with the guys that spent the hours in those cabs would be worth your time.

Those are some good points and partly why I am leaning towards the 2012 as it is still under deere's warranty. I am far away from dealer with the units so I dont think getting to the owners is going to be an option. From what the dealer told me the 2012 was a demo unit and then was retned to a customer while his macnine had a repair that put it OOS for a while. Also I think since the 2012 is still under warranty I may be able to extend it for a $$$.

I would at least ask the question for both machines and see what the dealer gave you for answers. Most likely the other owners/renters are just a phone call away and would be glad to help out a fellow JD owner with the straight dope. If the dealer won't divulge the info that will give you a clue all by itself.

If you can obtain the serial numbers of each tractor your local JD dealer can run them and tell what service and warranty work was preformed on each tractor.

I had a 2011 and traded it for a 2013 model. The difference is mostly in the cab. The controls for all the hydraulics are up on the console, and the PTO is now an electric switch, which is much easier to use than the old lever. Another improvement they made was in the back where you hook up the hydraulics. They used a cast iron manifold for the outlets, instead of a cheap steel add on. It is much more robust and works better in my opinion. Its the same one they use on more expensive models. I am not sure if they are using the same front axle or not. I know they started painting them yellow instead of black for some reason.
They also put the 4wd lever in a better place and put a light in the dash to tell you when it was engaged. Which they should have done all along.
The one thing they should have changed and didn't is the crappy brake system. The first push sends your foot almost to the floor before they pump up. That was one of the things I hoped had been fixed on the new ones, but was not.

Thats about all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the info, those were pretty much the things I noticed as well. Putting a Deposit on the 2012 today.
