Parents and I are seriously looking at a 5083e and had some questions on pricing. Dealor quoted me $40,500 (includes FEL). Seems like a decent price. Parents getting in their late 60's really want a Gator XUD 850D (current MSRP 11,500) and the cab on the tractor. Really would like to know a good stance to take in trying to bargain for both. We are very blessed and will be able to do this but don't want to be hosed in the process. Anyone have any advice in the direction to take with the dealor? What would be a good deal?
Background:
Recently parents inherited land after a long legal fight with some family members. We ended up with 160 acres (100 arces usable terraced land) with many ruts, lots brush (wild plum), and a few little ponds. A lot better than the 100 acres the "family" was trying to make us take. Sorry I am just a little bitter still. It was been 10 years since the land was properly taken care of (5 years of uncle taking farm over while grandfather was sick, he only took care of the land that he knew he would inherit, then 5 year legal fight). Easy to say I will be using a box blade and sprayer faily often. Can't even explain how much I miss my grandfathers big ol Case tractor, little blue 60's Ford Tractor, and old 70's John Deere Bull Dozer after they were sold at auction. Born out on the farm, ran it for my grandfather (for 15 years) until he got sick. Learned everything I know about farming from him. Took me
(just FYI family used grandfathers money for developing the land and are starting to sell off theirs) I am sure everyone here will probably understand a little of that bitterness . Only way to make it better is get out on a tractor!
