Changed my transmission/hydraulic oil on my 5085M today, all 11 gallons, along with a new filter.

After getting done along with various other maintenance items, I noticed that the Electrohydraulic Hitch Indicator lit up in the dash, which supposedly means that there is some sort of hitch malfunction. Hitch moves up and down just fine, so I'm not sure what would be the cause. Anyone else seen this after changing oil and filter?

In my 7 years of ownership, I have never seen this indicator come on before.

I'd the tractor run and get the oil warm then operate the arms up and down a few times, there could be air in the system that needs to be purged.

Good point. I bet you're right and that the issue will go away once I get it warmed up and connect an implement and/or my FEL and work it a bit. I'll do that once I get the one remaining maintenance item done, which is to drain, flush as refill the coolant system.

Well, I was wrong. I've put maybe 15 hours on it since the hydraulic oil change and the hitch malfunction light is still on. Been using a 3 way hydraulic blade as well as the FEL extensively.

Everything works as expected, just that darn hitch light is on all the time now...

Pardon my ignorance.. but what is the electrohydraulic hitch ? Have searched, and seems related to engaging the PTO but can't confirm. tks

One of the reason's I sold my 2014 5085M with 560 hrs. on it. When an idiot light comes on you usually have to take it to the dealer to shut it off. I'm not spending that kind of money (after warranty)to have it fixed. I was having other hick-ups also. That's how JD and other manufactures are making their money now, maintenance of computer software they Own. Hopefully someday someone will come out with a code reader for Tractors, like for Auto's.

Beenthere, most of the JD 5000M series and others are run by electronics. No longer a mechanical lever to raise and lower the (tph) and many other things on the tractor as well. It is very slick when it all works as it should.

I get that there are electronics in place of levers.. but don't understand what "hitch" is being referenced.. or is that part of the mystery?

3 Point Hitch
It's controlled by a UP/DOWN button and rheostat.

Well what do you know. I guess posting about problems here can sometime have magical consequences. I did my coolant flush today and while I was circulating distilled water, I had some time to kill and worked the FEL and rear hitch for a good 10 minutes and doing the subsequent starts during the coolant flush process, the hitch malfunction indicator went away.

Having an electronic hitch is pretty neat. You can "program" it so that it will raise and drop to set points and you can raise and lower using up and down buttons to get to those set points. You can also adjust the speed at which the raising and lowering takes place. Neat stuff when it works. I must say that despite all the electronics on my 2012 5085M, it has been good to me and never left me stranded. Other than this one issue with the hitch warning light, the only other electronic gremlin I have experiences is that about once every 10 hours when driving back and fourth aggressively, the power reverser light comes on and I have to switch it to neutral for about 10 seconds before I can continue. I think it is just trying to tell me to slow down a little. lol.
