I am getting a new 5093e. I have a MX-6 and a HX-15 already. I kinda want an in-between size mower. MX7, MX8, MX10?

I am thinking something easy for my wife to drag around. She gets confused on the batwing - too many levers, etc.

I was thinking a pull type MX-8 might be a good compromise.

Comments?

Darin,
That MX7 is a big unruly beast, I'd stay away from that.
I have a 3 point MX8 for mine. Great machine. It covers the rear wheels and I have my wheels set wide. The 3 point handles it with ease. You can lift it high enough that you can back up into brush and then slowly lower it down. I stayed away from a pull type because of all the turning in tight spaces I do and because of all the brush I cut.
Oh, an MX8 is so smooth you can't even feel it running on your '93 and it'll run in the 540 economy setting so you'll save fuel.

That MX-7 is big, but it is 3 point also like the MX-8.

I am thinking MX-8 pull type so my wife can just drag it around. Set the cutting height. Pull it up if you think you are going to hit something, then put it in float. She won't be backing it all more than likely. I am thinking pull the loader off also to make is easier.

540 economy is even better.

The blade tip speed is slower than the MX6 I am used to. 4 blades spinning under there should help chop stuff up nicely.

I am in the process of cleaning up all the stumps and garbage out of the pastures she will be mowing so it should be easy mowing.

Uh careful here your thinking might be off.
You can't "lift" a pull type.
An MX8 has 2 blades not 4.

MX-8

Hydraulics ram to lift it.

3 gear boxes

2 spindles

2 blades per spindle as a minimum.

Huh?

If you can't lift a pull type then what is the cylinder on the back for? I'm pretty sure you can pick the cutter up to go over stumps, rocks, ect.

The mx8 is a twin spindle cutter with two blades per spindle. Last time I checked 2x2=4.

I would think you can raise the pull type with a remote controlled cylinder, the MX8 should have two spindles and four blades for balance.

Yeah when you guys talk about four "blades" I'm thinking four "spindles" sorry. What can I say I'm still on my first cup of coffee.
Sure I know about the hydro on the pull type but that isn't going to actually let you lift it. That allows you to raise it but it is still touching the ground.

Two wheels on the back. Can raise the deck to 12" according to the JD website.

With my 5095M I just drop the bucket when I'm mowing, not the whole loader, takes about 45 seconds on or off, reduces front end weight and lots less hassle. Just don't forget to put the pins in when you're putting it back on!!! Been there done that!!
