Just recently purchased a new 5055e.... So far very happy with the machine. I have read most of the bad, hoping for the best. I do have a couple issues though... Finally put her to work yesterday in the woods skidding logs with our farmi winch, again super impressed. Twice though got the "!", for no apparent reason, no overheating, no nothing seemingly out of the ordinary. Ill call the dealer Monday, wondered if anyone had any experience with this? Also, I also have the pumping the brakes issue like others have noted, what has been the outcome of that? I suppose it is something I can learn, but it seems to not be right.

Any help would be great.

I can't remember or not but have you read my 5055E thread? Dealer still has mine going on two weeks. Brakes and caution light was just some of my issues. I haven't heard for certain what the fix is or if they have it figured out yet. When I do, I'll let you know. Might save your dealer some trouble. Caution light is a pain, it'll kick off the pto if you have the power reverser transmission.

Hey Rusty, I have read your full thread, and the "lemon," one as well. I guess I hope that Deere (really all manufacurers) makes thousands of each model, it doesn't seem that thousands of people are posting there horrors. At least I hope that bad news travels faster than good.

I guess I am mentioning that because after reading yours and the lemon post, one could say "I told you so..." Therefore I am just saying there has to be some good ones. As I just bought one, cause my dealer gave me a good deal, and to me it appears to be an awesome machine.

Again though I have had the "caution light," twice for no apparent reason, the pumping brakes and it seems that the range tranny lever, doesn't seem to really "lock in," but that could be me learning it.

Taking her in the woods again today, so we shall see.

Rusty, It would be awesome if you would keep me posted on what the find on yours, I hope they make it right for you.

And one other thing...... ;)

It would be awesome to have a USA made machine, although we as a country have some enormous issues, I still love the us and would generally pay a little more for USA made products. Particularly (wigwam socks, round house pants, and Thorogood boots...... Or red wings)

Our own epa has basically made heavy manufacturing (steel casting) completely impossible to compete in the USA compared to China and elsewhere. (It's not right that they can pollute, but it is what it is) I believe labor costs are an issue, but I don't think its the largest issue)

I go to sea for a living, have been working in Singapore for the past year in a large shipyard loaded with Indians. We have all seen the "travel channel," episodes where they go to some open air bazaar India and it looks super dirty and not at all where you would want something as complex as a relatively large mechanical vehicle built, but they have been like that for literally hundreds if not thousands of years. However, and not to sound elitist or anything like that, but the Indians I have been around, many, are great people, super hard workers and get the job done. USA shipyards are waaaay worse. I suspect that what's left of manufacturing in the states is the same. My own uncle whom I love, worked for General Motors 40 years, because of his union standings (really high) he didn't do a darn thing for the last twenty years) I suspect Deere has a lot I'd of the same in there factories.

I wish mine were made in the USA but it's not, hardly anything is. Sucks that even the new thimble and wire clip for my farmi winch were made in China.

My (!) light started flashing the first time out on my 5075e. I called the dealer and he said each time you shift out of Park, it's necessary to cycle the clutch to the floor one time to keep the light from flashing. I assumed the clutch cycling only had to be done once after start-up but after reading your post I wonder if it has to be cycled every time you shift out of Park.

I also started noticing the brake pedal pumping issue a few days ago…

For what it's worth, my range shifter sometimes needs to be worked into gear with the clutch, like any range selector I've ever used; not quite like shifting in and out of 4wd, but same idea. It should click in without any grinding if done gently. I hope that's normal and that yours (and mine) are functioning correctly.

Otherwise, it's an awesome machine and very well-suited to the work I intended it for.

I'd be the last person to say I told you so! I love my tractor and still feel the 5E series are an excellent value and machine. Just need some kinks worked out. I'll keep you post on what they find. Hopefully we can get my new machine figured out tomorrow.

First I've heard about the clutch out of park. I hope it's that simple for you! Sometimes it's the easiest things that I forget about! I'll keep you up on the brakes also!

I asked my dealer about the brakes this week and this is a copy of his explanation for the issue we've noticed:

That is correct on the brakes; since asbestos was removed from braking materials, all the companies auto, truck, tractor had a challenge to find materials that would last, would stop the vehicle; however, first round of these( this goes back to 6000 series maybe 15 years ago) found the brakes were creating a drag situation due to absorption of moisture. The result was a needed larger clearance between pad material and brake disc which is why on first push the brakes do not feel as solid; once pedal is pushed second time the pad is already on the disc so the leverage is increased and the operator feels the more solid pedal.

WE will look at this for you just to make sure.

Refer him to your owners manual that talks about soft brakes. There are problems with the braking system. Supposedly the dealer got my old tractor fixed and the new one is being inspected. Taking over a week to get me this new tractor. Starring to get ridiculous.

The asbestos change-over for equipment brakes has been ongoing for a number of years. More than 20...
None of my other JD tractors have brakes that "go to the floor" on the first push!

JD110, 2008 model. JD4720, 2011 model. JD5075M, 2011 model. And just last year, I rebuilt the brakes on my 1939, Ford-Ferguson 9N. The brakes don't go to the floor on that tractor, either!

Something's "fishy in Denmark" as my mother used to say...

I know...

I didn't like that explanation either. But they're going to check it out when they come to do the transmission recalibratio
