5100E 540e PTO will not engage

I have a “new to me” 5100E, the 540e PTO will not engage. Not sure if there is a problem, or I’m just missing something. Any ideas?

Will the normal 540 pto engage? To engage 540e, you must shift the 540 lever and then pull up on the yellow pto switch knob. Also engine speed needs to be under 1700 rpm.

Ok,thanks. That’s helpful info, I don’t think I’ve tried it that way. Tractor is at a remote location and it will be 3 weeks before I can try that. I’ll let you know if you’ve solved my problem. Thanks!

I was guessing the lever would not move and a linkage problem. Older models had linkage to limit rpm too, I am guessing rpm is now electronically controlled, so maybe like jd110 says if you try and engage above 1700rpm it will not allow engagement.

Ok, that’s going to help with my thought process, when I start trouble shooting. It’s going to be a couple more weeks till I get back to it. I will update. Thanks!
