The 5101e has a manual shift (lever) to engage the 4-wheel drive, correct? Since it's not an electric selenoid engagement you likely don't have an instrument panel indicator (light).

Correct, it is a manual engagement. I see the 4wd icon light come on when I start the tractor, but failed to come on when 4wd engaged. Thanks for info.
Whats your opinion for a harrow for this tractor? No real cutting; mostly scratching for overseeding hay fields and smoothing rough spots. I'm thinking JD210. Just not sure how wide I can get away with.

Well, you've got plenty of power... and if you're only thinking of light ground work - you'll be able to go with a wider disc.
One other consideration is rear tire slippage. Are your rear's filled or do you have wheel wts.? You can work a wider disc with some added "@ss weight"!
Don't know how wide the JD210 is. I used to work a light-duty 12' tandem disc with a 2WD JD3020 and no problems. Had fluid rears, though.
Worked a 14' medium duty tandem disc on a JD4020 and fluid rears, too. Crop clean-up in the fall and knockin' down the high spots!

My 2010 5083e was the same way and annoying. The indicator is there, the light behind it is there, but it isn't activated. My new MY2012 5083e has a working pto and 4x4 indicator.

I asked the dealer about that on mine, and he told me it didn't have it. That is the same dash they use for many of those tractors, and I guess some have it and some don't. My little 3520 had it.
You could put a switch on it and wire it to the dash and probably get it working. It is silly that they cut corners like that.
