Just bought a used 5105 and had it out today bush hogging. After about 15 minutes I noticed fluid leaking down from behind the dash onto the hump between my feet. I got to looking and it looks like it is coming from the top of the steering column just under the steering wheel and running down the steering column? Any one have any ideas? Control valve? If so how hard is it to rebuIld?

Thanks Lee

I have attached a picture of the hydraulic system for you tractor. My guess is there is a leak in the steering valve or in the lines. Looking at JD parts there is a steering valve seal kit. You might want to go to selectmanuals.com and get the tech manual for you tractor $29.95.

Thanks. I'm guessing it it is a seal in in control valve due to the fluid building up an running out of the very top of the steering column and down the outside of the column. Going to call the guy I bought it from tomorrow and see what he thinks. He works on tractors and supposed to stand behind it with a 50/50 warranty. Will post updates as I get them.

Update. I removed steering valve and took it back to the guy I bought it from and he put a seal kit in it and so far so good. Did not charge me a dime to do it.
