We had a big grass fire yesterday and in order to save a home I had to drive through several fire lines and doze a fire break. While the fireman said I saved my neighbor's home, while fighting the last line of fires and just making the break in time, the underneath of the tractor got hot enough finally to melt the rubber fuel line to the tank and you can guess what happened next . . . fire engulfed the tractor so fast you cannot believe it. Whoever said diesel burns slow has never experienced that. I slammed the tractor into forward gear so it wouldn't sit in the pool of flames and bailed off.

Fortunately for the tractor, another brush truck had arrived on the scene just in time to extinguish the fire before destroying the tractor completely. But now I need a wiring harness part # RE-203685. They want nearly $900 and I am not surprised because of course the harness is all one monstrosity - not segmented into smaller ones. Is there a better place than JD to get one?

I'm sorry for you lose. You might ask Agri-services if they will make you a wiring harness. Agri-Services

Slow to light, not slow to burn. Glad you are OK.

the firemen shouldve been spraying the tractor as best they could with water to keep the tractor from melting down and catching fire.we had a meadow on fire years ago and my brother was using the tractor and loader to move bales engulfed in fire.and the fire fighters stay with him wetting the rear of the tractor down because it was covered in hydro oil.and it didnt catch on fire.

2X - Zebrafive. Also, call you insurance co. No tractor insurance - call your homeowner insurance co.

Thanks for the kind comments and positive karma everyone - it is sincerely appreciated.

My neighbor is a shrewd (to put it nicely) person. There's no way he would give me his insurance info. I am self insured meaning we have no homeowners insurance. I built our home from trees I logged and milled and dried (I operate a sawmill). In the big scheme of things it's not much money but it comes at a time when money is very tight. I think I'm going to have to pay for the harness and any other parts it may need out of pocket.

The kicker is my neighbor owns the largest tractor dealership in our county and will not even return my calls. I wouldn't be surprised if he sues me for damages to his grass. I'm not kidding. I don't *think* he will but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise ma one iota if he does. His son who is being groomed to take the business one day is a fine young man but unfortunately he is not in charge of things yet.

Sorry to hear the neighbor is so ungrateful.
Before I knew he owned a tractor dealership I stated I would have paid for the parts. If I owned a tractor dealership my service guys would have picked your tractor up and returned it repaired free of charge. It would have gone to the top of the work list.
I guess no good deed goes unpunished.
