My dad had the 5234D tractor and had nothing but small problems with it. One day just riding the tractor, a piece of metal broke underneath and damaged the transmission, frame, etc. He took it back to the dealer and the dealer called the regional cub cadet rep and he came out to look at it. The rep said that its not worth trying to repair it so they offer my dad a new tractor (5264D since the 5234D is no longer available) which he gladly accepted. Ever since he got the new tractor, he has had 0 issues with it...Try pushing for a new tractor and inspect the damages on the tractor, if it has any frame damage, push for a new tractor...

I have a neighbor who went through the same problem. He took the machine back to the dealer and the dealer pushed the rep to get this man a new machine. Kinda gives a good example as to how cub backs up what they sell, they shipped the dealer a new tractor for him and he has loved it ever since. I think the first batch of these sub compacts had some issues that got worked out. Your dealer should be doing the research, not you.

There was a poster on here who posted as Hard, I think he still post under a different name now but he had problems with a couple Cub Cadets (I think either the same model or similar model). He has a sour taste in his mouth about CC but if I recall they did replace his tractor for him. I am sure he will pop up if he still post on here as he always liked to spread his Cub Cadet cheer:rolleyes:

Best of luck to you with this, I would think if they don't make the part anymore they should do something to make right and if that means a new tractor then so be it.

I was looking up some of Hard's post to see about his situation and he did have two tractors taken back by the factory. After the problems with the second 5234d he declined to take a third. So it appears Cub Cadet has a history of problems with this model and a history of replacing them. Have your dealer press them.

Here is one of his post talking about it. It is the 2nd post in this thread.

As I recall they ended up refunding Hard's money, but it took a long time to get it back. He had problems with 2 5234's that were deemed not repairable.

He is now known as Viking65, which is an improvement over his last name IMO

Stay away, far away from the cub 5000 series until Yanmar makes those too. Ford is right, I declined the third tractor and my dealer did refund me in full. Reimbursed by MTD. They did not prorate the check. However, the process took 2 tractors, many, many trips to the dealer and 2 years to resolve.

My problems were major. My first 5234D tractor was a 2004 model. I went through 2 transmissions, busted front axle, throttle cable assembly, cracked fender due to factory installation problem and a couple of other little things. I went freewheeling while mowing downhill when the problem with the first tranny cropped up. I was lucky there was not a ditch, trees or other hazard in front of me. It took several feet to get the tractor stopped.

The second tractor, a 2006 model which I was told had all the transmission problems fixed, had a bad engine that would lose power while going uphill or while mowing. I only had the second tractor for a few hours. The dealer could not repair it, a MTD tech could not repair it and finally a Diahatsu tech could not fix it. They offered me a third tractor. But, after 2 years of this I had enough and I asked for a refund which they did without a fight.

My dealer was great, he did put me in touch with a MTD rep which helped because I was able to plead my case directly to him. You have to be patient and don't piss off your dealer. He's really all you got. I wish he sold JD's. I would definately buy from him again. Maybe next time I buy a tractor I will buy one of those nice looking Cub/Yanmar's from him, they look sweet.:)

You didn't like Hard, JoeDirt????? Welcome to TBN, what, did you just join yesterday:rolleyes:

I would just like to thank everyone for there input about the machines, may dealer even sent them to Cub Cadet and they would still not replace my junk
tractor!! they want the dealer to take the Transmission of the tractor and ship it back to them and they will rebuild it again with the faulty part that they are aware of!!!!! they don't think much of there customers when they just give you back what you know there is a problem with, anyone want to buy a Cub with a rebuilt tranny?? the Orange or Green machines are looking very good, I should have bought one of them in the first place. Thank you all again and sorry for ranting. I will never buy anythink from CUB CADET again or recommend one.

Make your dealer give you a new Cub Cadet/Yanmar to use while your tractor is in pieces. If they refuse tell them to not bother sending your tranny and that you will have your lawyer talk to them. I doubt they will want to let you use a brand new tractor for however long it will be till your tractor is fixed but it might let them know you are serious.

Have you tried to contact Cub Cadet personally about this matter? Some times you get a good contact and they will bend over backwards to help you. I wish you the best.
