In short after about 10 minutes of operating the right hand side rear tire quiets turning and starts to be drug. The 1st time it happened I checked the hydralic fluid and I topped it off. I had no problems for over a week. it happened again. i checked the fluid again and it shows full.
Wierd thing is if you let it set for about 10-15 minutes it'll start pulling again. Another thing Ive noticed is even though the tire isnt turning the FEL and rear arms still raise and lower.
Ive searched how this drive system works and havent been able to find anything. I appreciate any ideas or information.

It sounds like the brake is dragging and it locks up when it builds up heat and expands. It could be a problem with the brake valve, but more likely the problem is in the retractor pins in the axle housing. THe next time it happens, loosen the bleeder screw on top of the axle housing and see if the wheel frees up. If it does, then the brake valve is at fault. If it doesn't, then the axle housing needs to come off and replace or reseat the retractor pins.

Does this help, I have the rearend just to move the tractor a few yrds to get it out of the pasture. The tire turned then. I'm in process of googleing retractor pins now.
Thanks for the suggestion

After taking jd110 suggestions. Before you start taking anything apart. I suggest that you get the tech. manual either from JD, on E-bay or Selectmanuals.com. I also suggest you search this site as others have had the same problem. I have the manual for my tractor (5210) and special tools are needed to put things back together.

As was mentioned there is a spring in the brakes that does not retract causing the problem you described. I have included the URL from JD parts, take a look at brake disk.

When was the last time you replaced the hydraulic fluid and filter? Doing this now will NOT correct your problem, but it could have kept it from happening.

Let us know how things work out for you.

Thanks. What do you mean changing Hydraulic fluid could have prevented it?
To answer question today. I bought the tractor used Feb of 07 and I've changed it now 3 times.

The first step to get to the retractor springs/spring, return compression spring/return compression spring assy is to drain the hydraulic fluid. I listed the 3 names, because everyone is talking about the same part. Looking at JD parts (brake disks) things are a little different depending on serial of tractor. If water got into the hydraulic fluid I have to believe this part would be affected by that water. I included the URL to get prices, if you do not have it.

What led you to change the hyd. oil that often (about once a year) ?? Hours put on the tractor, or some other indicator?

No it was every other year. I bought the tractor in Feb of 07. Being a used tractor I felt better changing the fluid. I've just change the fluid every 2 yrs since. No reason other than peace of mind
