5300 using hydraulics with loader mounted

Hello,
I have a 5300 with a 520 loader. I have questions about using the hydraulics for other attachments without removing the loader. What is the Joy Stick Transport lock for? Do I turn that on before disconnecting one side of the hydraulics? Does it matter which side I disconnect? Does this "lock" the loader is place so it won't move? I want to use the hydraulics for a disc. Thanks for the help!

Pick a circuit to use with the disc. That single function of the loader will be disabled. (use a complete circuit... can't mix between bucket or boom for example) The loader bucket or boom will remain in place subject to cylinder leak down. If you use the joy stick lock, you can't raise/lower the disc.

Ill add to what hosspuller stated that the JS lock is designed when activated to keep someone from accidentally moving JS IE it locks JS handle in neutral. I have in the past borrowed my neighbors 5200 to pull my rake with and unplugged the bucket control breakaways to operate my rake.

Which spool does the attachment need to be on? Many I have read about want to be on float spool, which raises and lowers the loader.

Maybe you can move the loader to the bucket spool and beforehand take off the bucket. If anyone has an experience on this point, I would be interested in knowing.

You may want to remove the loader, I have attached the 520/540 loader manual. It is not hard to do, you do need to be on level ground and note the tractor must be in neutral as the loader pushes the tractor off of it.

Thanks for the info! I have an operators manual for the tractor and the loader, but it didn't seem to have much info.

I think the park stands were an option for the 520 loader. Well worth getting. I would remove the loader, as JD5210 suggests.

My 520 loader has the stands. It appears it will be a lot easier to take off the loader than it was with a 2020 (48 loader) I'm in the process of selling. With the 2020 tractor I had to put weight in the bucket and use a come along on a beam to hold the back end up. Didn't have any stands. I've been told by a couple of people, one the JD salesman, that I could just unhook the loader and use the hydraulic whenever I needed to. That's what I'm going to do until I'm ready to take off the loader.

A follow up: I take the bucket off (JD quik-tach ) the loader when using the NH mower/conditioner, New Idea no-till drill, or neighbors disk harrow. (all require one hydraulic circuit) I find the loader arms alone not a bother at all.

I do the same thing. Use the curl and dump circuit for loaded so can raise arms if necessary.
