Is $14,850 a reasonable price for a basic 5303? Are they a decent tractor capable of carrying on the JD tradition of high resale value?

The invisible hand which guides pricing will tell about resale value. I was always told not to base a purchase on the item's resale value. Go with your gut on this one.
I, personally, was suspect of Deere's wisdom with the -03 series. After climbing on one recently, I'm even more suspect. For instance the little steel pawl attached to the fender which is supposed to keep the gear lever in Park wasn't close to doing its job. And speaking of fenders, what do you call those crude, flat things shielding the rear wheels? I felt that there was too much cost-cutting on this tractor
Are you looking at a loader as well? Take note that the 510 cannot be removed from the tractor without hours time.
Personally, I'd seek a nice, used 5300, 5310 or 5320 if you require something green. I feel that the color of the paint and the price is what sells these things.

The 5303 is a great tractor for the money. Not even the imports can compete with the price on it. Yep some creature comforts are given up but you also are not paying twice the price for the same basic drivetrain either. As far as price I believe when I was going to get one of these I had priced the loader and tractor for 16 or 17k. Go and find list on the deere website and my price was 23% off of that.

The fenders are pretty ugly on them. I wish they would have put dished ones on. We have a new one on the lot and it seems pretty nice for the money but I think the 5005 series is a better value with MFWD and the sync reverser trans.
