hey guys i'm new to this forum and i need some help with my tractor. It keeps blowing the key switch fuse. I can put a new 30amp fuse in there and as soon as i turn the key it blows the fuse. Do you think its the switch or is it a relay or something. The owners manual doesnt tell me what the relays are so i'm not sure which one runs the ingition system. Has anybody had this problem before? I did put a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to the hot wire on top of the injection pump and it cranked up like it was suppose to. however that eliminates the use of the key switch, and all the dash board functions. anyone who has any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i need to add to my original post. I put the hot wire on the injection pump and i still used the ignition switch to crank it but i didn't have any dash lights and wouldn't cut off unless i pulled the hot wire off the injection pump.

You need a wiring diagram to see what is on that circuit. If it is blowing the fuses something is shorted to ground. Could have a wire rubbed bare, could be a failed part. Without the diagram it is a shot in the dark.

I am haveing the same problem with a 5320 have looked at the wiring and can find no visible shorts what did you find wrong with yours

I believe the problem is the temperature sensor. On the thermostat housing there is a temperature sensor that is connected to a two wire harness that goes to the injection pump, this is the "cold start advance" portion of the system so it starts easier when cold, the sensor is so it doesn't activate once warmed up. If you disconnect the sensor and it works fine ohm the sensor, probably shorted.

The sensor on the thermostat housing, that controls the advance on the inj. pump. When it fails it shorts out and blows the fuse. Try unplugging it and see if it starts and runs. I think the part # is RE503242, if you are quick changing it, you don't have to drain the coolant, just make sure it's not hot at the time.

I suggest you do not run the tractor for an extended until you replace the sensor.

JD5210 is correct. A new fuse and unplugging that sensor allowed me to start the engine. I replaced the sensor and everything is back to normal. I have to wonder if that sensor could be permanently unplugged???

It difficult for me to understand why JD has not found a cure for this sensor burn out. This problem has existed for many yrs.

As you know the tractor will start without the sensor. To me one of the hardest time for an engine is while it is trying to start, so whatever one can do to get it to start faster is good for the engine.

The engine manual states -when coolant temperature is below 50 C (122 F), the solenoid valve is activated and opens the cold advance circuit- . So even in the summer it has a role.

My suggestion would be at least plan to replace it when the outside temperature goes below 50F.
