Hey Guys,

I need some help. I have a JD 5325 4wd with the push butted 4wd rocker switch on the dash. I damaged the original solenoid while bush hogging a few years ago and paid the dealership to replace it. They did and it worked for awhile. There is a little green light that comes on the dash when you engage the 4wd. If it's off, the light is gone.

This rocker switch doesn't work any longer and there is no green light on the dash. My tractor is always in 4wd with no way to disengage.

I've crawled under and looked at the solenoid and it looks fine. No obvious damage. It has the wires plugged in and look normal.

Does this solenoid get power through that plug? My dad tried to measure power at the plug with a meter, but didn't get anything. Is there a fuse for this switch located somewhere on the tractor?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Might be a good time to get the tech manual that covers the 5325. You will have wiring diagrams and with some study, will be able to track down the problem.

Or....someone here may have that tech man. and be able to give you some places to check.

Thanks beenthere. I'm thinking someone else has had the same issue, so I'm trying the forum for a few days before I go the tech manual route.

If no one can help here, I'll certainly track down a manual. :)

The MFWD switch gets its power from fuse F17. It should be a 10 amp fuse. If you have a power reverser, it also feeds the reverser lever.

OK Guys. I figured out the problem, but it wasn't an easy one to figure out.

I found the fuse panel which is located behind your left heel as you're sitting on the tractor. My 5325 is the straddle mount with the 9/3 sync shuttle. I checked the fuse for the mfwd and it was fine. I got my little test light and had power on both sides of the fuse.

I then pulled the switch off the dash. We had voltage through the switch, but nothing happening on the solenoid. We pulled the electrical plug from the solenoid and had power going to the green wire when the 4wd switch was off. Turning the 4wd switch on would kill power to the green switch. Still, the solenoid wouldn't do anything.

So, we pulled the solenoid off the tractor and I took it to the John Deere dealer to have them test it. It's a simple 12v solenoid, so he tested it using a couple of jumpers and a 12v battery. Solenoid was good. What the heck!!!

Took it home, plugged it in and the **** thing wouldn't work. pulled the plug and had power running to the green wire, so we cut the black wire and grounded directly to the frame. Still no luck.

Finally, we just cut both the black and green wire and figured out the plug was bad. For some reason, it wasn't making good contact with the posts on the solenoid. Looked good from inspection though. So, we bent the little connectors down inside the plug and was able to get a good connection.

Did this fix the dash light too?

Hey Zebra,

It did fix the dash light once everything was getting a proper connection.

Thanks.
