54\" economy deck for the B series....

Greetings, I've pretty much decided to go with either a 7510 or 7610 (even tho the BX2230 still interests me due to the MMM setup) and in checking out the MMM's on the Kubota site I noticed this description on the 3 available MMM's for the B series tractors:

"Features for RCK54-75B Economy Deck:
For B7400, B7500, B7300 tractors,
Durable drive shaft to mid PTO,
Suspended-type deck,
Compatible with LA272/LA302 Loaders,
Quick adjustment cutting height with Lever and Pin on 3-Pt. Hitch.

According to the spec's, the deck is the same gauge as the 54" ground contact MMM & only weighs 14lbs lighter (less the guage wheels I rekon)."

Wonder what makes it "economy?"
Wonder if it's as stable as the 60" floater on the BX?
Wonder if the cut is as good as the non-economy ground contact MMM's?

A 54" would probably be easier to get around my various obstacles even tho a 60" does barely fit...

I was visiting a 2nd Kubota dealer just after I discovered this and asked about it. The very friendly but not very knowledgeable salesman guessed it was an economy deck because it was made of a thinner gauge of steel (wrong) and when I asked how it adjusted since it didn't have guage wheels, he said the B7510/B7610 had a depth adj knob just below the seat. After I told him that there wasn't any such adj knob, he went out &,looked at one then came back saying they must have changed them this year. (yeah right). Since both answers were definitely wrong, I didn't ask him anymore tech questions. Just went over his best pricing.
Unfortunately, neither Kubota dealer had MMM's mounted on their B series tractors in my visits either.

I like the 1st dealer I met with and I think that I am going to go with him if/when I close another deal to free up the capital. I always like to get at least 2 prices anyways....

So, anyone know anything about this economy MMM and can tell about it's performance? I keep thinking a suspended or floating deck will work out better in my back 40 (really back 2) hilly, uneven, rutted former garden & pasture land that I've just started finish mowing in the past couple yrs....

Oh and this 2nd dealer gave me a brouchure on a Woods Groundbreaker backhoe that will hook right on up to the BX2230 now. Said it's not been out very long.
List was around $5200.
It can be used with a solid ROPS because it has it's own operators seat that sits outboard enough to clear it. And of course it's self contained driven off of the PTO.

Once funds are secured, my plan is to drive the 2230, 7510 & 7610 both one last time and the one what produces the woodie will be the pick /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 54\" economy deck for the B series....

Can't help with the mower deck but I notice that you are undecided between the BX and B series.

I started to buy a BX2230 but lolked at the ground clearance and exposed parts underneath that could easily be damaged by limbs and decided to go with the B7510HSD (hydrostatic) and am glad I did. The BX has 6" ground clearance, the B7510 has 12" and a lot less exposed (vulnerable) parts underneath. It also has better instrumentation on the dash and a few other differences that I really liked.

I was also concerned about the exposed power steering rams on the BX. If you hit a low stump (7" or 8" high) it looked like you could do some damage to the rams and it could be expensive.

Difference in price was $1,150 and I feel it was money well spent.

If you are on pretty level ground all the time the BX is a nice tractor. But if you are clearing brush and/or spend much time around low stumps the B is a better choice.

Re: 54\" economy deck for the B series....

Ok, I'll chime in here. I have the BX2230 wdith the 54" deck. When I was deciding between the 54" and the 60" I saw nothing that was labeled "economy" for either. The 54" deck suited me better as I have a smaller area to mow and a lot of turning to do. It is the best mower I have ever had. I had a great looking lawn for the first time. The bx series is the best for mowing, but if you have tough terrain you might want to look at the B series.

The 54" deck is made sturdy and it weighs a lot, built very solid.

Same here, I had the 60" deck ON MY bx 2230 and it weighed in at 250lbs. Best mower around, but had to remove deck even for minor boxblade work. Nothing cheap about any of them, regardless of size. Maybe there is an aftermarket for the B SERIES, dunno... : /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I'm thinking about contacting Kubota directly about this MMM.

( update, I have sent them an email via their website, so lets see if'n I rate a reply)....

Perhaps they'll share the "skinny" on this un-common implement for their B series tractor....

A link to the B series MMM page where it mentions the economy 54" MMM.

Re: 54\" economy deck for the B series....

Recieved a call from a Kubota rep this afternnoon concerning the email I sent them seeking info on the 54-75B economy 54" MMM. We had a very good chat concerning the deck as well as Kubota in general.

The 54-75B economy tag is due to it having plastic anti-scalp wheels as opposed to the hard rubber guage wheels found on the 54-24B & 60-24B mowers. The height of the deck is adjusted by a special lever & pin mounted assembly on the 3PH. It is adjustable in 1/2" increments and it is a fully suspended MMM but doesn't have the spring loaded flex of the BX suspended MMM. It can be fitted with a mulching kit but it cannot accept the grass catcher.
