\'54 Jubilee Hyd. Pump problem

I'm working on a friends Ford, it is suppose to be a 1954 Jubilee? it's painted blue but the belly is worn down to red paint. The 3 point will not lift after sitting for awhile, if you bleed the pressure line at the pump (it does spit air out) it will work fine until you shut it down and let it sit. It still has the vane pump on it, we changed the fluid, the problem is still there. We removed the pump to check it out and there was oil in the pressure line, but not in the suction line, that seemed strange to me? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated, the rebuild kit for the vane pump was qouted at $750 and a piston pump new at $2600.

Both of those numbers are high.

The vane pump IS pricey to rebuild.. but not 750. thjere area few specialty parts palces with kits.. however.. if the pressure line is staying filled.. that's a good sign the pumps not worn out. however.. the suction side being dry may indicate a suction side leak... letting it loose prime.

Also.. a minor point.. 53 and 54 were both NAA tractors.. the 53 was designated jubilee to comemorate fords 50th aniversery.. etc.

The hydro pump for a hundred series is the same dimensions but a faster flow rate than the 53/54 piston pump and will bolt right up. Works fine for position controll.. but wil lmake draft controll too sensitive.

I can't dig up the article.. but someone has reproduced the rotor and vanes for the oem pump.. if the ring is shot you are out of luck.. but if it is within tolerance.. for a good amount of money.. it can be rebuilt. best bet is to find the piston pump...

BTW.. the naa pistom pump.. or the hundred series piston pump.... they are not 2600$ /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Sounds like your parts guy has kids going to college.. or needs to make a house payment..
