I'm looking at replacing the mower blades on my Deere 455 54" mower deck. Is the group wisdom to stay with Deere OEM (part M115496) or go with another manufacturer's equivalent blades. Use is relatively fast mowing of 4 acres(vineyard) every 2-3 weeks with side discharge. Any suggestions welcome.

I buy a new set of Deere OEM each year.. mow close to 8 acres with the 455. Price not bad from Deere. Not sure what "equivalent" means to you.. but the decision is entirely up to you.

beenthere - Lots of blades made by non-JD companies which makes for options. Wanted to hear that what works best not just the least expensive. Love supporting my JD dealer but it's a bit of a hike to reach them so many times I purchase online to save time and fuel.

Pls list a few of the "lots of blades by non-JD companies" as we'd like to know.. maybe someone on TBN will have some experience.

My experience with the 54" decks over the past 25 years (first one 1995) has been limited to JD blades with some attempts to try Gator blades which didn't impress me.

Did notice Amazon has the highest price per blade at $17+ but includes shipping, and GreenParts Store has a price drop of about $3 per blade set of 3 but doesn't include shipping. With shipping, comparable to Amazon for a set of three. Per blade at GP Store just under $12.

Look forward to seeing the other blades you are aware of on the market.

A few other choices I have seen include: (1) MaxPower 561809B, (2) Oregon 91-380 330-365,& (3) 8TEN 810-CBL2315D.

I never use a discharge. mulching the grass and chopping it up fine is best. the nutrients in the grass go to the blades, so if you bag those, you have to keep fertilizing the grass, no thanks!!.. try gator blades and use the mulching plate. Gator Blades - Jacks Small Engines

radios1 - The reason I do not use mulching blades as I discharge clippings to the side providing nutrients to the grapevines in each row. In a little over 4.5 acres I have 36 rows of vines at length of 800' per row.

Purchased the OEM blades from my Deere dealer which was very reasonably priced. Inspected and cleaned the 54inch unit, then released the 18mm bolts on each blade, replaced the blades and re-torqued to specs. Greased all points on unit before re-installing. The new blades work well.
