\'54 NAA -Brakes again

Ok. I got the wheel off and the screws that hold the drum. I beat on the drum and broke it free. I backed off the adjuster so that the pedal is easily pushed to the running board. The drum still won't slide all the way off. It looks like the hub may have been beaten and deformed somewhat, so I will take a drill mounted stone to it. I tried a file, but the lug studs get in the way. Any other ideas? - I can so far move it back and forth about a quarter inch.

Once the wheel/lugnuts are off.. and those stupid screws out.. it should slide off.. if you have the shoes out of the way. Sometimes thre is a lip holding a shoe on.. other than that. I can't think of anything that would hold them on. And those little screws.. those were mor eor less just used for assembly line work at the factory.. they don't do much once the lugnuts are on.

Re: \'54 NAA -Brakes again

Thanks Soundguy. I agree about the screws. I had one on each drum on my '65 Chevy. I had to drill them out, and never replaced them.

My night gig is sound engineering. Live sound mostly, but some installs, some audio for broadcast ( tv/radio), repair.. etc.

Done! The problem turned out to be the last owner who beat on the hub so much to get the drum off that the hub was mangled. I borrowed a cute little air grinder from a neighbor and ground the hub until the drum slipped off. The shoes look new, but I grind them a bit at the ends and now the brakes work fine. Hey Sound Guy - how do you have so much time to to help me out when it soundslike you have several jobs? Thanks loads

Typing takes little time at 90wpm ( half of them spelled wrong).

My day job is basically piloting a desk.. I keep a tbn window open and dink with it on spare time.. Plus.. if it's info about a ford.. I've probably got it in my beat up old head.. if it's other tractor info.. I got hit a resource book.. etc.
