Hi Guys,
I have a '99 5410 with a Shuttle Shift trans and 1050 hours that is giving me fits in colder weather. It will not shift out of park nor can I change ranges when it is cold. I went to move it awhile ago and even after letting it warm up and running the hydraulics and pto for twenty minutes I can't shift it out of park. This happened last year; it was fine if I came back to it later in the day after it warmed up a bit. I changed the hydraulic fluid/filter and cleaned the screen about 50 hours ago. Everything works fine when the weather is a bit warmer. Yesterday was in the 40's here in TN and it worked great.
Any ideas??
Thanks,
Micheal

Mine did the same thing winter before last. I changed out both the filter and fluid and it hasn't happened since. Guess I might find out this week, as cold as it will be if that was the problem.

Is it some old grease getting hard? Maybe something getting a bit of rust?

Well, I went out today and I was able to get her in gear after I warmed her up. the weather was a little warmer. Something new; the shifter was in a slightly different position when in the Park position. It did not want to line up with the park bracket on the inside of the fender. I did not want to force it and instead re-adjusted the bracket to receive the shifter. I'll see to morrow since it is going to be colder if it cured the problem

spring has broken in dentball or valve is worn in park , links are not in sink to much, it will go in if I force it ?

I did not want to force it for fear of busting something. It started to move today and so I ran the pto to warm things up. I was then able to move thru the gears smoothly without the least resistance. The odd thing is that this only happens in colder weather, the rest of the year- no issues whatsoever Sunday I could not get it out of park for love or money; I ran it for twenty minutes with the pto and operated the loader-nothing , but it was colder.

If you can, try leaving it in neutral and see if that makes any difference.

I wonder if you have some water in the hydraulic fluid, even though you just changed it not long ago. One way to determine if you have water is to do a "crackle test". There are a number of videos on youtube on what this is and how to do.

I thought of leaving it in neutral and probably should have, but I wanted to see if the adjustment made a difference. The crackle test is brilliant. Now I have to round up a hot plate; I don't think my better half is going to want me frying up some oil samples in the kitchen

My guess is you have some water in the shift mechanism that has frozen. There is a rubber boot #7around the shift lever that may be cracked and allows some water in. try heating the bottom of the shift housing#23 with a hair dryer or heat gun to see if that frees it up. If you remove the bottom cover, you should be able to dry it out.
