54D mide deck mower belt change

I broke the belt and just got the new one. I snaked it all into the right position but can not get that tensor pulley spring back on as the belt is just a bit too tight. I am sure once I get it on and work it a bit, it will loosen up, but I just can't get that spring back on.

Any suggestions?

The spring came off of mine while in use. I had to use a pair of vise grips to clamp down on the spring and pull with all my might.

I have a brake drum tool that probably would have worked also. The springs on brake drums are just as tough to put on.

I think I've used these for a hose - once. I've used them to take off and put on a bazillion springs - they are great for that! :thumbsup:

I find they get into tighter spots and are generally more versatile than brake spring pliers.

Well I used a ratchet strap on the pulley lever and then muscle and a pair of pliers for the spring and presto, I got to mow my lawn......

I will keep an eye out for those pliers and brake spring gizmo next time I am at TSC...... Thanks for the help!!!:thumbsup:
