I've had my new 5500 w/265 FEL for a few weeks and love it. The dealer went over everything except how to "easily" open the side hoods to get to the engine compartment. Anyone else have trouble with this or is it just my tractor? Is there a trick to these latches? There is nothing in the manual and I won't be by the dealer for a few weeks.

just push and turn. I think they go about 90 degrees or something like that. They are trickier to line up and tighten then they are to loosen /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Tim's right. You forgot to push. If you push against the spring, they're a cinch, going on or off.

You think that's something-wait till you try to
get that wire screen out that protects the
radiator?

Thanks guys but I have pushed and turned and they don't release on either side. Tried everything else I can think of .... I'll check out how it's supposed to work on some other tractors on the dealers lot. That or I'll yank those suckers off and call it customized. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Texas, On my 6500 I remove one bolt from the large clamp that holds the air filter. Then the filter will move enough to allow the screen to be removed.

I took paint off the screens of my 6500 when cleaning with a pressure washer. So be careful.

Just like everyone said. Push in and turn. You also have to have the hood up. On mine, someone didn't know how to get them off and bent cover up some try to pry it off. Should have a yellow decal that show open and close postion.
