5525 ailment

i own a 2007 JD 5525 w 1100hrs. Recently using the tractor where we were starting and stopping, restarting the tractor decided not to start. It is equipped with left hand forward/reverser. sometimes in the past the started has gotten stuck in the middle and makes that awful noise like grinding gears, but by putting everything in neutral the tractor starts without any grinding. This time it is different no grinding dash lights sometimes on sometime fading, but the engine will not crank. My thoughts are the F/R is stuck in the wrong position or going to ground. pulled the tractor back to the barn. the dash lights came on bright, but just a simple click when I turned the key.The dealer would love me to bring it in $$, rather figure it out even if I have to buy parts

Check the negative battery cable, where it attaches to the chassis. Dash lights dimming when turning the key to start sounds like a bad ground. Check both ends of the cable, but would guess it's at the chassis end.

checked the cable everything looks good. nothing loose. I have put my jumpers on the battery and thinking that this pick up a weak battery, but the end result was the same. starting to think my starter might be stuck some how. however I haven't ruled out anything at this point.

Unfortunately some of these poor connection issues cannot be picked up by eye.
Get a cheap multi meter and do the positive and negative voltage drop tests in this DENSO troubleshooting bulletin.
Jumping the battery does not bypass poor electrical connections to the starter or to the tractor frame/engine
