well it got really cold this past week and the 2 year and 2 month old 5525 would not start. Noticed that the heater coil symbol on the dash wasn't lighting. hmmm. Only used the tractor a few times since October with 1 day remaining on the warranty when dealer replaced the instrument cluster panel because of sticking tach and fuel gauge. After thinking about the few times I had used the tractor since dealer had it, I couldn't ever remember seeing the heater coil light up, but tractor started OK anyway because of warmer weather. Called dealer and he said that problem was likely the heater timer relay and that dash replacement probably had no affect.

Anyway after reading some of the posts on this great forum I decided to do some relay checking and maybe jumper the heater element.
But I couldn't find the heater relay. arrrgh. It's nice that the Operators manual has a wiring schematic but all the wires are wrapped in black tape so I can't seem to trace it. Any ideas where this relay is located?

Also can I jump directly from the battery to the heater element by connecting from the end of the positive battery cable located in the middle of the left side of the tractor to the center post of the heater element on the top left of the tractor?

If it worked prior to this dash replacement perhaps it's unplugged behind the dash??

yep it was working prior to the dash replacement and I don't see anything unplugged; I wish I had photographic memory tho to see if anything changed; still trying to figure out where the heater timer relay is located

Although our Mahindras are totally different animals, here is what I know; my timer is behind the panel below the steering column. I think there were only 4 bolts to remove, and it is in plain sight.

My 4025 was doing the same thing. How I get mine to work is I keep turning the key on and off until coil lights up. Sometime it takes 2 or 3 times sometimes 10. I know I should fix this but it always works.

yep - that is where mine was too; thanks!; of course I icouldn't figure out how to disconnect the wiring harness and I didn't want to force anything in this cold weather. so I did some more head scratching and then got lucky I think - I got it started; I am going to reply to another post and explain what I did or found out

I kept turning the key to no avail. After figuring totally stumped with relays etc, I decided to remove the cover under the instrument cluster and found alll the wiring harnesses and connectors. After jiggling some things around in the process, I decided to turn the ignition key to on just for kicks. Surprise! the heater coil light came on. I turned the key off and tried again. The light didn't come on. I jiggled the various harnesses again and squeezed some of the connections. Tried the key again, the coil came on and I let it time out at 42 seconds. Let the engine crank and it fired right up at 25 degrees outside.

I feel good about that but I don't feel good about where the break is occurring. After letting Mahma warm up I did some more jiggling and I think I have the problem isolated to the brown/white wire connector that is along side the blue/red and another one near the ignition switch.

Anyway, I think the whole problem is related to a poor connector that may have been precipitated with the dash cluster replacement.

I haven't put things back together yet because I need to be more confident that I have ALL right the connections tight and I'll keep my fingers crossed for now.

Thanks all for the tips!
