I am thinking of adding some wheel weights to my 5525 Cab. Does anybody have them already? Any advice?

Thanks,
D.

I have two of the weights for my 5200. They should be the same for your 5525. I have both of mine on the same side for cutting across a slope. What you you wanting to accomplish with the weights? If I remember right they only weigh about 100# each.

I am doing some heavy front end loader work. I am moving trees around, etc. and a 550# boxblade is not cutting it on keeping it totally stable.

I have not heard back from my dealer, I need to call them back.

What about hanging suitcase weights on the BB?

I am not sure what a suitcase weight is...

I was picking up a post hole digger today and they had some 40lb weights that fit perfect on the bb. So, I put 4 of them on there - I think that will help a bunch.

A suitcase weight usually goes on the front and weighs about 60 lbs each. They have a handle hole cast in to make them easy to install or remove. They are stacked side by side. It depends on the tractor, but some can use 10 or even 20 (big tractors) on the front tractors. These tractors need rear ballast. You can use cast weights that bolt on the wheel, or liquid in the tires (or both). Some also use a ballast box on the 3 point hitch loaded with rocks or concrete. (Used only if you're just using the FEL....no rear attachments).

OK, I have no wheel weights. I have Frontier Bb2072 on the back and I just added 4 - 40# suitcase weights on the BB. I will try it out today and see how it goes.

Thanks,
D.

Hope it isn't too late for a post, but I have rear wheel weights on my 5525 and they do a good job on handling trees, etc. I do keep a blade on the back usually for clearing, so it adds to the counterweight. My tractor came with the wheel weights on it.

Yes these tractors really are light on the rear, especially when a front end loader is in use.Wheel weights are probably the best form of ballast. When I checked a few years ago on cost for wheel weights for a 5000 series, I think they where about 100 dollars each.

I have two wheel weights per side, plus calcium (yeah I know the downsides) in both rears on my 5420. I still need my 1000 pound back blade when I am working in the dirt. Without the back blade, it is not real stable. With the back blade I feel comfortable working on my uneven terrain. I have the 541 MSL FEL. Even with the back blade on I can still pick up the back tires, but it is not easy. Note that you can add as many as 4 weights per side, but then they stick out a long way beyond the tires. Begging to catch on something. Also difficult to remove when not needed...

All weights are about $1/pound from JD. A little cheaper in the aftermarket.
