My 555A Ford backhoe diesel loses about a gallon of coolant every 4-5 hours, but no leaks are evident. I notice what seems like a lot of moisture coming from the tube that comes out of the valve cover. May be some water in the oil also. Has anyone had this problem or know what it is?

Very good chance it has a blown head gasket, possibly cracked cylinder head or bad cylinder liner/o-rings if it's a wet sleeved engine.
Was the engine ever over heated??

Is coolant filling up the oil pan, or spilling on the ground, or is the engine making steam?

That's a lot of coolant to lose in not very much time. I'd think you could see it collecting somewhere, or smell it in the exhaust if it is getting in the combustion chambers.

Its making steam and coming out the valve cover tube.

You probably have a hole in a cylinder wall extending into the water jacket. That calls for a new or rebuilt block, or stripping, boring, and sleeving your block. In other words, a major overhaul.
