555B - Forward/reverse moves slowly

Hi all,

I have a 555B, I recently got the engine running and went to drive around. I noticed you must rev the engine to get it to move at all. It has no pulling power and will simply stop if it encounters any force against it. Where should I start with this? I’ve considered breaking the tractor and installing new pump, torq converter and clutch pack but wanted another opinion as to if that’s the correct path. It has the button on the bucket lever.
I’ve read about a solenoid being stuck open, not sure about that. Thank you very much!

Have you changed hydraulic filters and oil? There's a metal mesh intake strainer screen under a block-off plate in the transmission that you should check also. Do you have a service manual?

@555man, you are on right path. You can check the declutching solenoid/valve on the left side of the transmission. It bolts onto the outside of the transmission and dumps shuttle oil when the button is depressed. Pretty unlikely though. There is a button on the floor that does the same thing that activates this solenoid too.
Changing the hydraulic filter like @eKretz suggested is a place to start and a must either way, but it is sounds like pressure loss of some type in the shuttle is the problem. Whether the pump is worn, clutch plates worn or a seal is blown, splitting and changing out the components you indicated are necessary. As @eKretz said too, there is a strainer in the transmission behind the shuttle assembly that may need cleaning OR, has come unglued from the assembly. If it came apart, wire it back to the assembly. Also, check your converter flex plate for cracking.
