Jim,
I have a TC35D and a 6 foot woods bush hog. Get the 6 footer. The only time mine slows down is when the grass clippings cannot escape and I literally have the equivalent amount of 2-3 large garbage bags of grass under the deck. If I raise the rear of the deck enough so that the grass can actually escape it works fine. Personally I think that saplings and pricker bushes actaully strain the tractor less than very tall grass. If the grass can get out you'll be just fine. As another point of reference I also use a 7' rear discharge finish mower. That doesn't strain the tractor at all.
