I am relatively new to tbn and recently purchased a 1985 Ford 1910 with a loader a 5 foot bushhog...which would be considered my "first" tractor. I will start by giving you a little info on myself and then i will get get to the aim of my project. I am 16 years old and i am a junior in high school. I live on a small acreage and i enjoy working on tractors, lawnmowers, trucks, etc. and i especially like to weld and fabricate. Being the person that I am, I decided that I wanted to build a snowplow for my tractor that would mount on the FEL after the bucket was removed. I would have gone with all steel but it seems that sheet metal can be quite pricey, and i happened to have a small section (about 4x5') of 1/8 inch sheet aluminum in my "collection". So i decided to build a steel frame that the aluminum would be either bolted or riveted to. Using the hydraulic tubing bender at our school, I bent out the arcs that woul d shape the back of the snow plow from 1.5" round tubing (14 ga). I used 2x2x1/8" angle iron for the top trim and a piece of 2"x1/4" flat bar for the replaceable scraping edge to bolt to. So far i have only welded the two outer arcs and the top and bottom pieces. Any advice on how many arcs to use? Am I using thick enough steel for a snow plow? I am only planning to use this for pushing snow. If I need to move dirt I can use the bucket. I have not got to the plow angle frame or the mounting frame...any advice would be appreciated...I have a small selection of scrap metal at my access that I would like to use instead of purchasing new steel-trying to keep the cost as low as possible....thanks for looking>
