New guy needs advise. I have a dealer getting a 72" King Kuter Box Scraper for my L2800 Kubota 4X4. The Manual says Max of 52" but dependant on soil. Manual says max weight 694 Lbs. with blade weighing 500Lbs. Every thing I have read says to get larger than rear wheels to cover tracks and rule of thumb is 5 HP per foot of blade. I have 29 HP with rear tires filled with Calcium Cloride and they are 5' from outside of tred to tread. The 6' box will give me approximatly 6" extended beyond the wheel on both side. Since I will mostly be grading roads with Montana rocky mountain soil. I figured the extra 6" would give me a little edge when getting up against the mountain banks on the road. Never used a box blade before but everything I have read here says they are great and you can not live without them. I also have a 5' widw front loader. Any exxperience would be appreciated. Leon Wittner:

Welcome to TBN :D! You definitely want to clear your wheel width with a box blade. You will probably get a lot of differing opinions as to whether or not a L2800 can pull a 72" box blade, but as your research reveals it all depends on what your task is and what kind of material you are moving. For light road grading you should be "OK". I have two questions for you- What type of tire are you using and have you considered a good quality (ie heavy) rear blade as option for your road grading? You can windrow with a rear blade, but you can not with a box blade. Rear blades are also more efficient in moving snow than a box blade. Jay

I tried a rear blade and the soil it so hard it would just scate over the surface. It was a cheap blade. I am running the industrial tread on my tires. I live in Gig Harbor Washington in the winter so I do not have to move Montana snow.

Afternoon Leon,
Im with Jay on your question of will the 2800 pull the 6 ft BB. I would think that as long as your doing light duty work your OK. If you drop those scarifiers down in harder soil, I think you may have your hands full with that tractor ! IMO.

I have a L2800 and a Woods GB72 BB (555 lbs.) and I am very happy with it. The soil here is pretty sandy and that probably helps, but I can pull a full load of dirt in Medium (HST). With the scarifiers down I have to go to Low, but the BB is pretty heavy and cuts well so I very seldom have to use the scarifiers. I am definitely glad I went with the 72" model.

Thanks for the information. I have a standard transmission with rocks and sand so I think it will work but I will let you know in a couple of days. Montana pebble in my front loader shown in photo.
