60 or 72 inch Finnish mower

Depends on mower deck design also. Rear discharge and greater deck clearance needs less HP. Once had a lower profile deck 72 inch side discharge and it was barely acceptable on a 20 PTO HP tractor.

I have a 60 inch on a L2501 and it will bog if the grass gets thick and I have it set for lawn height. I also mow my fields with it and the grass can be high. The rear discharge makes a big difference and also the blade type, mulch v standard. Also be sure to clean the deck from grass build up...

I'd stick w the 60.

2100# tractor and 17hp at the PTO it would be marginal mowing at ideal conditions. Plus negative effect of additional weight and width on tractor handling. Personally I wouldn't do it.

No! I have a 20 PTO couple year old new diesel tractor and with a 5'. I can bog it down with medium ground speed (3rd of 6 hi-lo) and 6" thick material. Also, the foot-pounds thing does matter, even with my "light duty....45 hp gearbox 5'. A 5' FEL bucket hanging off the front with some gravel and it handles the lift part ok. Dealer sells that tractor with a 4' but I wanted to cover my tracks and it takes a 5' to do that so I said I'd manage.

I seen this thread and followed it. I was wanted a 72 " finish mower for my dad's 1520 Ford that I am getting. The 72" cut would be nice on the 5 acres I will be cutting to turn hayfield into lawn type field but looks like I may have to go with a 60" to be safe.

The tractor that I tried the 72 inch mower on was a Ford 1510 (19.5 HP PTO). I didn't like the performance and went back to an older 60 inch mower. It should also be noted the mower was an older series side discharge King Kutter. This mower along with being side discharge had a low clearance deck that clogged and clumped grass easily. The newer King Kutter finish mowers look much different. Newer rear discharge wind tunnel decks perform better. Just got a new Kubota with 19.5 HP PTO and are sticking with 60 inch mowers.
