62\" MMM question

I have a noise in my MMM when I make a hard right turn. It sounds like a blade scrapes. You can also feel a vibration at the same time. I have pulled the mower twice and looked at blades, belt and pulleys. The only thing I see is some slight wear on the plastic belt cover. The deck has no marks or paint missing. It only does it with the mower running. It does not do it at very slow speeds (crawl) and it doesn't do it unless it's turned nearly all the way to the stop. I noticed it soon after new but it seems to be more frequent now.

Any ideas?

maybe check the belt tension.and check for belt wear if you havent already

Re: 62\" MMM question

rv,

I also get a bit of a vibration when I turn right at the limit of travel. It makes the spring on the anti-scalp wheels chatter/vibrate. I just chalked it up to the powersteering fighting the limit. Let us know if you find out otherwise. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

JDFAN

The wheels were the first thing that I thought of. I had that problem with my 62 deck. If you don't have them adjusted right they make a real racked & vibrate on turns. At times it will sound like a blade hitting the ground. Adjusting the wheels would be the first thing I do, it’s an easy enough adjustment.

Re: 62\" MMM question

check for twigs and debris rubbing the belt. I actually had a bit of a twig stuck in the v of a pulley causing vibration to the belt. also check the universal joints.

Re: 62\" MMM question

I'm going to check all adjustments when I put the deck back on. I recently received the owners manual from my dealer because they were out at the time of delivery.

I did already check the belt and removed the cover to check pulleys and for debris. I didn't see anything wrong on top or underneath.

Re: 62\" MMM question

This may sound simple and stupid, but carefully inspect the inside sidewalls of all four tires to see if anything has been catching and rubbing them in turns.

Re: 62\" MMM question

With a hard right turn your front tire may be hitting the pin that holds the mmm front bracket on the frame. It is a commom problem if the dealer installs the wrong pin. it should be an L shaped pin.

Re: 62\" MMM question

In my case the vibration is not caused from contact with anything I can see (I have the L shaped pins). When you turn the wheel all the way to either extreme, the powersteering will "fight" it, much the same as when you engage 4WD and this "condition" is worsened. I just think the "fighting" of it introduces a slight vibration (you can feel it in the seat of your pants) and this is transferred to the pins which are just spring-loaded. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: 62\" MMM question

Mine only does it with the mower engaged so I don't think it is anything in the front rubbing. I think it has to be something in the mower.

One thing to add. It doesn't do it unless the mower is down. I have mowed some of my high grass with the mower up and it does not make the noise or vibration.
