Hi all,

While you all are getting ready for winter, here in CT we're still dealing with leaves. As well as gator blades mulch leaves, I've found the airflow of the 62C lets some leaves through without chomping them into pieces and have wondered how well a blowout plug works. So, I decided to fab one using some cheap aluminum flashing I had laying around. Here are some pics:

Pics are reversed, but after going over about an acre, the plug ripped out at the screw holes (the aluminum was really thin) and you can see a whole bunch of BB-sized dimples from the branches etc that the 62C ground up. However, it did work pretty well up until it ripped out, so I think I'll straighten out the aluminum and use it for a template to fab one out of thicker steel.

BTW, you can just see the bottom of my cab in the second pic, so I guess I'm getting ready for that 4th season too.

JDFANATIC,

I found a piece of carpet to work very well over the hole using plastic zip ties to fasten, no pretty, but very effective.

johndeere,

I know you mentioned it to me before, but I just wanted to try it in metal.

Most of the trees here still have the dang leaves on them, even after the 2-day wind storm we just had on the east coast. Im affraid it will jump right into winter with the leaves still hanging on.....
As for your deck, dont they sell a mulch plug for it? its probably a sturdy mount, and not easily removable....but it will do wonders with the leaves..

Duc,

I hear you about the leaves and how they're only about 50% down; I sure hope we have enough Indian Summer to get us through the entire collection cycle. As for the blow out plug, though I'm sure Deere has one, I just wanted to try out the concept before ordering it. If I get a chance I'll ask Jack about it tomorrow. How many hours on that 2520 now?

There should be a mulch kit available for that deck...the mulch kit on my 62C (for an X585) came with plastic baffles tha go on the underside of the deck; one function of the baffles is to block the exhaust chute.

The mulch kit I have works great for leaves BTW. Cleaned up 3 acres worth yesterday. Turns em into dust in 1-2 passes.
