I'm considering these attachments on a new 2520 tractor, but curious about how a few things function.

With a 62D MMM, I would be using the mechanical lift system. Am I correct in that the typical way to control your mowing height is to set the casters as desired and then lower the 3 pt. hitch all the way down so that the mowing deck exclusively rides on its casters and is never held up by the mechanical lift?

With the 46 Backhoe, is the only way to control the speed that the implement will move is through the tractor RPMs? I guess what I really want to know is if the control valves are variable (the further you move a control stick, the faster the fluid flow rate) or simply ON/OFF.

Thanks for any insight,

JD's mowers don't ride on the casters, but are suspended from the frame of the tractor. You do use the 3PH to raise and lower the deck. The wheels are just for "anti-scalping"

The control valves are proportional, and you also use the RPM's for speed control as well.

Kennyd's right, but I would like to add that the 62D isn't nearly as easy on/off as they show in the animated ad :). I think I just need to get into the flow of when the mounting pins get moved and loosen up the front bracket a bit, but in the mean time I'm upgrading to the independant lift kit so I can still use some 3-point attachments with the mower attached. I've also found that with Pat's Quick Change system installed my three point arms bump into the MCS bags so I'd rather be able to control their position independantly of mower height.

In case you're interested, the 62D height control arms attach to a bracket that rests on the lower part of the three point arms. As the arms go up, it changes the angle of the bracket, lengthens the hinged mower frame and raises the deck.

62D MMM, I also had the problem of the tight fit fot the front mounts for the mower deck, so tight I had to have the dealer correct the issue.

I found out from the dealer that John Deere had some brakets in their system that had not been made to spec. Even after they replaced the brackets, John Deere instructed the dealer to install a washer on the right side to move the bracket further out.

Good info to hear from everyone.

So my revised understanding of the 62D MMM height with mechanical lift is now: Set the casters/wheels on the deck for roughly the height you want to mow and then use the position control lock on the 3PH so that the deck lowers and stops just before the wheels would hit the ground. This way the wheels will hit contours in the ground to "float" the deck higher when needed.
