I have the 62D2 Drive over deck with the mechanical lift on a JD 2720. I bought the rig last July.
When I hooked up the mower deck this spring, I noticed when raising the mower, the male half of the drive shaft hit the u-joint and there was about 1 to 1-1/2 inches of upstop clearance. The mower manual says to adjust the deck until there is 1/16 inch of clearance from the upstop. I don't see any adjustments to move the deck forward to increase the distance between the gear box and the pto shaft on the tractor so I can raise the deck higher. I don't remember this being an issue last year, but I bought the tractor last July and mowing was pretty much done as I don't water. I have a call in to the dealer and they are researching it. I looked on JDParts and discovered that the male half of the drive shaft is different between the 2320 and the 2520/2720. I am wondering if I have the wrong one. Has anyone with the 2520/2720 experienced the pto shaft being too long? Would anyone like to measure their male shaft on their 62D mower deck. Mine is 8-3/8" in length measured at the yoke shoulder.

Matt,

The male part of my 62D drive shaft appears to be about 6 1/2 inches from the end to the yoke (that is, the square part of the shaft up to, but not including the yoke). My deck was purchased in the winter of 2008 and is used on a 2520.

I have no problem raising my deck all the way up.

Thanks for the info Runner. I hope others will post, including the 2320 owners. I think my theory may prove out.

Do you have the mechanical lift? While I was looking on JDParts, the mechanical lift was always referred to as (old). Further searching I discovered they have a new version of the mechanical lift (new) that changes the mower lift arms and the brackets at the rear. Moves all the linkage away from the tires w/o having to reverse them. Pricey though!

Anyway thanks again,
Matt

Yes, I have the mechanical lift. The only problem I remember having was getting it adjusted for maximum height without contacting the bottom of the tractor, i.e., maintaining that 1/16 inch clearance or whatever it was supposed to be. It was kind of tricky, but worked fine once done.

I believe the MMM 62D is different for the 2320 and the 2720.

Rob-D,

I agree the 62D is different for the 2320 and 2720 but only as an assembly. I have looked on JDParts and compared part for part. The only difference in part numbers I have found is the male half of the drive shaft, the gear box mounting plate and the v-belt. But I'm no expert in navigating JDParts.

I still would like some 2320 owners to measure in with their drive shaft length. It would help to confirm my theory.
