So I've gotten my '63 2000 4 cyl gas running very good, and want to start on the hyd lift issue. When I have weight on the 3 pt hitch, the lift will only go up by about a foot or so. If I man handle it full up, it will go back down, even with the PTO running. Going to change the fluid out, to start with. Is there any type of hyd filter/screen for it, internal perhaps? I pulled several of the access plugs, but did not see anything.

I've seen the video posted about the lady using air pressure to pressurize the pump, through the fill port. Does this work, and how much air pressure was she using? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

uh.. I see a few issues in your post.

1, pto operation has no bearing on the lift working on a 2000. about the only thing having the pto running while you manhandle the 3pt arms up is provide you a chance to get caught in a running pto!

2, pressurizing the pump thru the fill port? Um.. maybee you looked at a video fro a different machine. the pump is on the engine. the fill port for the hyds is under the front of the seat and it just opens into a sump. the only thing you can do with air pressure at the fill port is possible help prime a pump.. and if it lifts the 3pt a foot.. it's already primed!

3, try changing from draft to position control with the 3pt handle up, does it change anything?

4, you say it lifts a foot.. does it lift this foot under load. IE. will it lift many hundred pounds afoot and then stop.. or is it weak. If it lifts good load.. but not far enough, could be as simple as the cam pin and or cam follower are worn down to nothing and need servicing.

5, no filters..... not that lifting a foot would be a filter issue anyway...

1. I looked at an 8N earlier this year, the owner stated that the hyds would bleed down, but not if he kept the PTO running with the bush hog on it, while driving around his pasture. I did not witness this, so not sure if he was truthfull or not. But not likely to get caught in the PTO while sitting in the seat.

2. Actually meant the dip stick retainer.

3. I believed I tried this several weeks ago, but did not help. Taking it down to deer camp this weekend, will try it again. Just put fresh hyd fluid in it, seemed like the lift went up a bit more, but will have the bush hog on it this weekend.

4. It lifts a foot or so, with or without the bush hog. Earlier this year, with the disc on it, I could manhandle up the disc, and it would stay up. But not anymore.

5. Very good freind of mine has a Yanmar, the hyd lift wasn't working very good on it, cleaned out the filter (metal), worked like a charm after that. I was hoping for the same thing.

1, you say you have a 63 2000 do you have that or not. your comparison to an 8n is like compair canned peaches to watermellons. the 2 have vastly different hyd systems. the 2000 uses an engine mounted live hyd pump. the N uses a belly pump ran off the pto. the 2 are not equal in operation!
as for not getting caught in the pto.. you specifically mentioned manhandling a lift up with pto running.. i'll quote your post for you" If I man handle it full up, it will go back down, even with the PTO running" those are your words.. not mine.

2, dipstick, shockingly, is in the sump under the fill port by a foot or so, and, shockingly, accomplishes the very same thing i mentioned.. thus. no effect on a system that was already primed.

3, ? no conclusive data to comment on.

5, So do you have a yanmar or a 63 2000 or an 8n. You can't buffet style this and mix and match what works for one. On that yanmar. if the intake strainer was plugged and his lift wasn't working that's one thing. yours , you said, was lifting good a foot, but not higher. that's not a strangled pump.. that's a loss of lift resoloution. the 2 are not equal.
