This is a long question. My friend has a 93 640e john deere grapple skidder. He found a excellent deal on a 99 timberjack g4 winch. Never used. We installed it. The winch bolted right in. Holes for winch match the same holes in belly pan of skidder. Supposedly the timberjack winch is made by john deere since they bought timberjack right around that time. Even the id numbers are the same. We have a problem. The pto shaft always turns on a john deere skidder. On a timberjack it was hooked up to a torque converter. The timberjack winch when in nuetral has a brake that is applied so the drive shaft cannot turn. That will not work for the john deere, since the driveshaft is always turning. My friends brother has a john deere 540 with the same winch but something is a little different where the drive shaft goes in. And the pto always turns on that one. What is the difference in the front of the housing between the two? Can you take the input housing off of one and put it on the other? The bolt patterns are the same. Can we make the timberjack one work on the john deere with some changes?
