I let my tractor set for about 5 months. Now the clutch will not disengage when I depress the pedal. Does anyone have any ideas how to break it loose without tearing the tractor down.

Moisture has helped the clutch disk rust to the fly wheel. To prevent this condition, block the clutch pedal down when the tractor is not in use for an extended period. To loosen, try running the tractor with a pto attachment running & the clutch depressed. It works good if you have a big field to mow. Another way is to run it in high gear & hit the brakes hard. Be careful to brake evenly or the tractor can turn sharply. I would not use a oil based nut loosener on it. An oil soaked clutch will slip easier.

 Try rocking back and forth, you also may want to try some light lube shot up into clutch area, but don't overdo it. If that doesn't work, then try the mowing the big field route. It has been my experience that moisture in the atmosphere and long periods of sitting exascerbate the problem, so try to keep it dry, and start and move 1x a month in the off season. Keep your powder dry!:D

I've experienced this on truck & tractor clutches that see infrequent use. Spray the clutch disk/pressure plate with kerosene. It will break the bond in a couple of days. Kerosene doesn't have enough lubricity to cause significant slippage. MikeD74T

Let us know how you make out and what worked for you.I had a tractor do that on me and it wouldn't let go,ended up splitting the tractor.Everything was in ok shape but replaced everything anyway as it was all apart.
Good Luck,

My Satoh 370 did the same thing twice. The first time I split the tractor and literally used my fingers to peel the clutch disc from the flywheel after being unsucessful to break it loose by jabbing the brakes with the clutch depressed. Years later it happened again after setting for only about 2 months. This time I jabbed the brakes while holding the clutch in. This was after driving around with the clutch depressed and pushing against a large tree etc. Knowing I had peeled the clutch from the disc with my fingers I began jabbing the brakes more and did not break the clutch loose but broke a couple of gears in the trans. The keresene on the clutch sounds like the method I would try and prop the clutch released while the keresene soaks.

I bought an R2500 Mitsu that had set for about 3 years. The clutch was frozen and wouldn't release. I pull started it and drove it around for about 15-20 minutes, first in low gear and then shifted up until I was in low third gear. I was able to just circle up and down a small grade until it finally broke loose. I held the clucth petal down with a C clamp while I was driving it around. I was surprised it broke loose so easily from some of the other stories.
