Well, here's Bob's reply that he posted on 8/3....

( OK guys here is what actually happened.

First, I didn't get to see any of it as I was out of town. But my friend Jerry basically began to panic about the 670 rolls of sod and called in some helpers. I sent my tractor along with a mutual friend. 10 and 1/2 pallets of sod arrived last Saturday morning at 8am. My tractor arrived just as the sod truck was leaving. My friend, tilled the back yard and then dragged it smooth, and was done by 9:30 am. So 6 guys were there to do the work and 4 of them left about noon. At 4:30pm my tractor was loaded up on the trailer and headed back 2 hours to Indiana. At 4:30 the only thing left to do was cut and fit the partial pieces. However, the 10 year old pretty much tuckered out within the first hour.

As the story was relayed to me, there is no way he could have done the job in less than 3 long days by himself. 6 guys for 3 or 4 hours, plus the help of a small CUT made all the difference in the world and got the job done.

Today I got an invitation in the mail. There will be a back yard party at the end of August. I'm curious to see the yard.

But I agree. I would like to see or at least find out how the lawn is coming along.

And how was the party Bob?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Garry, the party was ON THE NEW SOD and IT WAS RAINING.

Overall the sod looked pretty good when the party started. Much of it was firmly in place, there were some dry seams and a few areas where there were problems, but about what you would expect a new lawn to look like when it is done by a city boy who has never gardened in his life but who is willing to try. So I'd give the yard a B+ on the report card.

Now, as I left the party when the rain really started coming down hard, and as the party did continue, I really can't say what condition the yard was in AFTER the party. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As for the actual work, my TC24, a 50" tiller, a 60" blade, lots of hand rakes and 7 total people. Of the 7 people, 5 abandoned the project at NOON, and the remaining 2 and the tractor had the job mostly done by dinner time. The tractor was packed up at 4pm and only the perimeter of the lawn needed to be put down at dinner time, but those were partial rolls that needed to be cut.

Well, I hope that the host made you the guest of honor at that party. Because without your efforts, and the use of your tractor, the party would've been in a mud hole! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fortunately for your "city" friend, grass is pretty resilient and will probably come back pretty well next spring, IF he bothers to fertilize it well this fall. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
