Dose any one use a 7' a three point bush hog with a mx5100 if so how dose it do ?
I'm going to mow a grass field about 12" to 18' high . If it works what gear do you use

I don't have a 7ft cutter but if i were to buy a new one it would be a 7'er. I use a 6' flail and have never bogged it even in grass over 4' tall.

I do not know your tractor but 7' can give my 265 MF (60 HP) a fit shaving the ground in two years of growth of fescue. Chipping 12'-18' grass is nothing.

HP is not my big concern because being 2WD it takes a lot of weights up front. My cutter does state Heavy Duty on the side. Hauling it can be a pain if the trailer is not real long trying to get enough tongue weight.

With a FEL and or 4WD you should be fine I expect. I only keep one front tire in the unmowed area so I am only cutting about 6 foot. In really heavy stuff to keep up my ground speed (for the not so thick spots I may only cut 3-4' foot.

A heavy cutter is hard on the arms when lifted if the weight is shifting but I like wider about 98% of the time.

That is a nice size tractor you have.

I've got a 7 bushhog and have used it on a ford 4000 which is very similar to your 5100 (around 50hp PTO). There were times when it would of been nice to have a little more power, but I would cut some pretty thick stuff with it (2' grass). Just needed to slow down a bit and let it chew some stuff. Not sure I would try using it on 1"-2" saplings.

Of Course on my M7040, it works like a champ. Amazing how much of a difference 15-20 hp can make.

The bush hog that Iam looking to buy for my mx5100 is a Ford 908 3pt 7' 2 spindle. Dose anyone know any thing about these ?

I have a MX5100 and bought a LandPride RCR 1872 6ft cutter. I'm wondering if I bought a big or "tough"enough one. I only have 15-18 acres to cut but some of it is pretty rough and bumpy. I'm interested in hearing opinions on this as well.

Land Pride seems to be a cut above so I expect you will be very happy with it. The 7' heavy duty bush hog is a physcial load to lift and the 265 MF is a very heavy tractor and it likes a little cutting out the tracks.
