No name on it and it's single drive gear box, pretty beat, composite rear tire, 1/2 of the PTO drive shaft. Just sittin' there couldn't tell to much more about it. What would it be worth, I, mean scrape maybe $40-$60? I suppose a guy could dump a small fortune into it if box was out. bjr

Scrap around Dayton Ohio is ten cents a pound. There is alot of material that is going this way! Pull the plug on the gear box and check the oil level, turn what is left of the PTO shaft and get a "feel" if it is free. If the deck is badly beaten maybe the Junk Yard is it's home for a reason. Good Luck. If you buy it for a good price you can always take it home tear it down and resell it for scrap if beyod repair.

If you need a cutter, it might be worth investigating. If you're looking to do this to make a few dollars...well, you can buy 2 or 3 cases of beer for $40-$60.

yes, if you are looking for a rotary cutter, this could be the one. as stated before, check the oil in the gaer box, try to turn whats left of the PTO shaft and check to see if there are any bearings out in the deck.

I read this to be a single gearbox 7' rough cutter.. not a finish mower. if so.. should be no berings in the deck.. just the gearbox inptut and output shafts. If it is a finish mower.. by all means check all the spindles and idlers and pullies.

In addition to all the other great checks already mentioned, I'd see what is attached (if anything) to the ouput shaft underneath. If the blades are there, or at least some piece of the two of them and the attaching bolts, you're way ahead. Should be a stump-jumper version (beam and big dish) or just a beam with the blades directly attached. If this isn't there, you're into more bucks in addition to the already stated need for the other half of the drive-shaft. That piece in itself won't be cheap.

steel today is bringing around 8 to 10 cents a pound when you sell it to the scrapyard, and you pay about .30 a pound if you are buying. When the price of steel went up, lots of good equipment went to the scrapyard as the economy was/is bad and lots of people sell running cars and useable equipment for scrap. Last time I was there, I saw a good looking 5' disk sitting to the side, they said an employee was taking it home but it was gotten out of a load of scrap.

There is a steel mill and scrap yard about 4 miles from me. I see lots of good looking cars and trucks and lots of farm equipment loaded and headed to the shreader. It's a shame some of the stuff they are selling. Us guys that like that old iron get our feelings hurt to see some of it going.

If the gearbox is there and turns and the blades are intact, go for it. May be nothing wrong but the front part of the shaft fell out. Look around, you may find that as well.
