Hey gang,

Got to try out the new toy today. I am wondering if it is working OK. I keep reading about everybody lifting the rear end off the ground when using the FEL w/o counterweight.

My tires aren't loaded yet (will be taken care of soon) & I had my 250# rear blade on for counterbalance. When I was removing stumps on flat ground, before the stump was loosened enough & the FEL wouldn't lift it, the rear tires stayed on the ground. I am wondering if the relief valve is set low or something. It does lift the front of the tractor off the ground & will lift a full bucket of dirt. I tried lifting & curling.

It's not that I want to tip the thing over, just trying to make sure it is working as expected. It is only rated for 600# lift, but the breakout is higher (don't remember what)

Hazmat,
I was having problems with my rear wheels coming off the ground, but I had no weight at all in the back. I added 250# of weight in the tires by washer fluid, and problem was solved. I think the rear blade is doing its job, and don't forget the blade sits back farther, so you've got a leverage thing going too. I think the FEL is working fine. I hope that helps. Kent

Kent,

Thanks for the info. I figured it was working OK, I just wanted some reassurance.

Counting down the minutes untill I can get out of work & go play some more.

Generally I think it is pretty hard to lift the rear wheels off the ground with the boom (vs. bucket) cylinders. If I pin my bucket and there is room for the bucket to roll back it will lift my loaded rear wheels. Probably the same for you. Be careful.

After reading this thread, I have this mental image of the Lippizaner Horses doing their dancing thing!
I would back up paccorti's admonition to "be careful". Any time any part of the tractor that normally has ground contact leaves the ground, there are considerable stresses introduced to the frame and components .... not to mention if it all comes back down quickly - which it normally does as one reacts quickly to bring things back under control! I guess I shy away from needing to test every possible limit of my machine!
