I would like to sell my 72" belly mower. It has somewhere between 25 an 35 hours of use, and has always been inside. The original blades show almost no nicks, has been greased before every use. No dents, and no significant scratch's. Mower shows very well.
I am only selling because I would like to put buy a larger rear finish.
Any suggestions for pricing and best avenue for selling would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Dan

I don't have a price but I'm curious since I have a 72"MMM with similar hours
that I'd consider selling after I get my 84" RFM. It was expensive when I first got it.

Which 84" mower are you going to buy? My dealer talked me out of going wider than 72" for my RFM because of scalping issues. I still want to sell my MMM even though I will not gain mowing width because of the pain of removing and installing the MMM.

I would put it on ebay for 99cents and watch it climb from there. I start all listings at 99 cents because it's cheaper. People will find it and bring it up to fair market value.

I've sold on eBay for over 10 years and I would not put it up for 99 cents without reserve. The eBay market has changed from one where items sell for a good price, to one where the selling price is below wholesale especially on an item that has a limited market such as your mower. I'd put a reserve for the least amount that I would sell it for, possibly less 10 percent. I've seen relatively new 72 MMM in really excellent condition asking $1500 in the local paper and no one jumped through hoops for it. They may or may not have sold for that amount.

If I was in the market for one I'd have to trade off the cost of a new one with all details and mounting assured and warranted, for one that may or may not fit, that may require additional mounting hardware that I will have to figure out, that is not warranted, that would be expensive to ship and/or pick up. That's worth some good money to me and it depends on where the item is located

I think the demand for the product will determine whether or not an item will do well on ebay. Sure, he could set a reserve on it, but that gets back to his original problem of not knowing what price to put on it. It sounds to me like he is done with the hassle of a MMM so that is the easiest way to dump it.

Put it on consignment with JD dealer that sells CUT. It would probably sell for more and quicker than finding someone who already has that series of tractor and needs a mower. Most dealers will sell it for 10% commission.
By the way, I just bought a rhino fm 84" rear finish mower yesterday for my JD 3720. I let you know how it works once the grass dries.

I agree that consignment with a JD dealer may be your best option. They know the product and have the ready buyers. A buyer may want it mounted and assured that it will work. I asked my dealer one time on something like this and they wanted 15-20% commission.

New aren't they about $3000? If it were mine I'd try the dealer and ask about 2200 incl the 10% commission. So you'd net about $2K. The dealer might be able to make some more on the install and provide warranty transfer.

Otherwise I'd try it on eBay for $1800-2000 local pickup only. This isn't the best season to sell.

BTW I agree that MMM are a pain in the butt to R&R compared to a three point hitch mower but they are far easier to cut and trim with. I'll gladly trade off the pain removing it occasionally for the literal pain the neck that a tail dragger is unless you are cutting open fields with minimal trimming.

If I bought a new mower I'd order it with a MM just because of my property layout and the trimming required. Earlier this year I had "the bug" for a new
33xx but it left as my old tractor still works fine.
