72" MMM

Is the 72" MMM for a 4xxx series tractor the same as the one used on the x55 series tractors? Just different mounts... or completely different deck?

I know a deck for a 4510 will work on a 4310. I would suspect they are a different deck.

I ordered a 72" MMM for my new 4720 this past spring. When it was delivered I found out it was operated off the rockshaft. I had told the dealer that I wanted an independent ram that controlled the lift of the deck. He said the only way it came was with the rockshaft. I asked him to remove the deck and we adjusted the price. So, some tractors have only the rockshaft control for the mid mount mower.

Its a completly different deck and mounts. I am looking for a new 60" or 72" MMM for my 855 and nothings matches up.

On the x55 the gearbox is almost centered while on the newer tractor it is more to the right side. This is the biggest compatibility issue I think.
I would like to trade my 60 inch for a 72 but it is hard to find a older one like this in a decent shape...for a good price.
Also, I would like to have a green deck. It seems like the yellow deck is always dirty. It is sad that those decks are not more compatible between models.

My 1993 855 has the mid PTO to the right of the tractor (as your seated) The guy I bought the tractor from took a 60" deck off a 445 and modified it. This deck has the gearbox to the left which hits the front drive shaft if I am not careful.
I am also looking for a 60-72 deck for the 855 but eveyone I talk to said good luck finding one.
The deck off a 4200-4600 has the gearbox in the right location and is very close to the same mounts and might be my next option since there are quite a few of those out there.

I have a spare 72" JD MMM deck that was used 1 season on my 1070. Its probably the very same unit you need. It lifts off of some hinges that engage from the lift arms in the back. I have the deck, pto shaft, front brackets, rear brackets and some other extra stuff that came in the kit for fitting up to other model (smaller) tractors.

Its just not practical for me to use on my tractor which I also need for haying. The on and off stuff gets to be a pain in the back and elsewhere.

Guess I wasn't clear in my first post... my bad. I have a 955, so that is what I need the deck to fit. Are there any other tractors other than the 855 and 955 that I can source a deck from?

If I can't find one, I may have to settle for a 272 3ph deck. A lot of people complain about what a pain it is to hook/unhook 3ph attachments, but to me, it is a lot easier than the MMM since it is not a "drive over" model. I will agree that the MMM is easier to maneuver than a 3ph deck, though.

The mower offered above for a 1070 would fit. JD changed the models with the post yanmar era. (4xxx and up) The brackets might be different but not the mower itself. At least this is what I have found by looking on JDParts. Mowers are the same from 670 to 1070 and their newer x90 versions. Even the current 3005 uses the same mower.

The newer decks have the gearbox more off centered than these older models.
That is what I was trying to say earlier.
