72" NH MMM question.

Is the center pulley and blade assembly supposed to "wobble" somewhat since it is the last pulley the belt goes around, or is it supposed to be solid with no movement like the other 2 assemblies? Mine has a lot of movement. I can hold the blade and rock the whole blade and shaft assembly back and forth.

Is this a NEW MMM or used, if used have you owned it since new?

I do not own a MMM, but all my expercience with mowers all shafts should have not wobble, wiggle either left/right or up/down in the Deck. There should be a Idler Shaft with spring tension to keep belt under proper tension. Sounds like a Failing or Fried bearing.

Is there a Grease fitting for said shaft bearing? Has been been given a few pumps of grease with each use?

It was a used deck that came with the tractor. When I got the tractor w/ 260 hours on it, all indications were that it was used mostly for mowing. Yes all shafts have grease fittings and I would give them a shot of grease at the beginning of the mowing season. Does anyone have any idea as to how much one of the bearing and shaft assemblies cost?

all three spindle pulleys are rock solid on my deck, as well as the idler pulley and the drive pulley on the bottom of the gear box.

as for cost, they usually arnt cheep

my cousin rebuit a deck on an older Alis and his were like $100 a piece

If anyone is interested, it cost $231 w/ tax for 1 new spindle assembly for my 914A 72" MMM. Easy to replace though. New one comes with no lube, Don't forget to lube your spindle assemblies. Previous owner must not own a grease gun. Dealer did give me 10% off just by asking even though. He said they usually don't discount, but if I was willing to wait and have part shipped with there normal order he would discount. It pays to ask.

sounds about right... the deck my cousin rebuilt had the same issue. dry as a bone spindles.

every time i greese my machine i pump 3-5 pumps into each of mine hopeing that some day ill start seeing it ooz out someplace.

Just wondering, but is there a way to press out the old bearing and just press a new one in, or is it not designed like that. If you could do that, you might be able to save a few bones... I don't have a MMM. Just wondering. Thanks.

Sounds like a bad bearing. Don't keep using it until you fix it. You should be able to replace just the bearing. However, I changed one on my KK mower and it can be a pita to get the bearing off. If you don't want to mess with the bearing you can get the whole spindle as suggested earlier. Bearings are usually about $25 but I'm sure it varies greatly.

the problem arises when the bearing has sezed and chewed up the shaft, or it wall'ers out the race the bearing is supposed to ride in.

then you have to replace the entire assembly.

That's exactly what happened to mine. I suppose the 6" rock I hit with it last season did'nt help matters. schmism, you're showing your southern tilt w/ wall'ers.
