Can anyone help me out with this? We put a new wiring harness on our 730 diesel electric start. We got the harness from agri-services out of Alden, new York. We have everything hooked up but the circuit breaker keeps popping whenever we go to try and start it. It will allow the starter to turn then it will pop. We have gone over the diagram that came with the harness and in the IT book we have. The lights work so we know we have power. Anything to check electrical isn't quite my area of expertise, especially when it's positive ground and both 12 and 24 volt.

Technically JD 24 volt starting & charging circuits aren't supposed to be "grounded". Yes the accessory circuits are either 12+ or 12- ground. Can you post a photo of the Agri-services 24V wiring harness?

I got all excited about helping since our 530 is still OEM 12 volt wiring....and no problems. But then saw yours was 24 v. diesel.
Does the 730 have all the "modern features" like the 530s got?

Other than a bastard electrical system, yes. I had a pony start 730 for a number of years, it was a beast.

JD 530 & 730 tractors share the same options except the tractors smaller than 730 weren't offered with diesel engine that utilized a starting engine or 24 volt starter.

Sounds like you might have a short to ground in the starter solenoid, or the circuit breaker may be bad. Assuming the wiring is correct. Has starter been rebuilt? If it has, Hopefully someone familiar with the JD "insulated" ground 24 volt systems did the work on it. There are peculiarities that can cause shorts if someone unfamiliar works on them.
