Hello
I purchased a 1974 JD 300B backhoe November 23, ran fine and brakes/hydraulics operated as one would expect. Engine and hyd oil/filters were in need of replacement which I did in the spring of 24. I know the brakes worked fine when I parked it the fall before as they held the tractor fine when coming down from the trailer and I was able to make left or right turns with the brakes with no noise.
I replaced the Hyd oil in the machine using STP fluid which stated it was compatible with JD, now when I apply the brakes, they make a loud ratcheting sound that is equally intense whether im using the left or right side.
It seems coincidental this issue occured when I changed the Hyd oil, so are the pads really gone or might there be air in the system or do I need to swap the fluid for Hygard?
The loader and backhoe functions seem to be operating normally and i may be imagining it, but the pump might have a slightly louder whine than I remember.
Lastly, I did change the filters but did not get a chance to get to the screen in the rubber hose to check for debris. Does anyone happen to know what size hose I will need? the original looks to be stiff and probably tempermental to reinstall in one piece.
Thanks
Ken
