Today after running a mower conditioner (Ford 538) for two hours with no problem, one of our volunteers (he's an experienced operator) stopped the tractor & turned it off. When he came back to resume cutting, the 7520 would not shift out of neutral. The tractor started started fine, but the shifter could not be put in gear. The tractor is not very old, it has about 320 hours on it.
We called the dealer, he called into Mahindra tech service who told him that they have seen this in a few tractors. They suggested that we jack up the rear and look inside a shifter (tranny?) box for a loose 13mm bolt on the bottom. The boss and his son did this. I was not there to witness it (these descriptions are not mine), but he told me that the box was dry (looked like it was not a fluid containing area) and that they did not find a bolt bolt.
The dealer also said that Mahindra told them it could be an out of sync shifter rail which would could be fixed by welding a bead onto it in order to keep in track. I am not sure if this is something we can diagnose ourselves let alone repair.
I'll be at the farm tomorrow to have a look. Our dealer seems to be in over his head on this one and has to get back to Mahindra again. We need the tractor now and also don't want to have to rent a trailer and tow it 80 miles back to the dealer--if we can even get it onto the trailer--it's stuck in the field.
Has anyone here had a problem like this? What did you do to fix it. Or, if you have any good suggestions we are all ears.
