Brandi, want to compare problems? I have had 3 with my 7520. Brake light switch sticks, PTO safety switch went bad and a nut on the steering control box was loose and leaked oil. Tightened the nut up, no more leak, replaced the PTO switch & live with the sticking brake light switch. :(

Why would you think that the 7520 would have more problems, because of the turbo? :confused2:

Yes, the turbo. More things to go wrong. I have always liked pure cubic inches. But, the 17 gpm pump over rules all this..........if only I would have looked more at the 7520 for $2000 more. Oh the anguish of just a 11.2 gpm pump.:ashamed:

Brandi, have you ever known of anyone with a stock OEM turbo that has had a premature problem? Turbos have to be one of the most reliable engine components that there is. There is a good reason that just about every diesel truck on the road has one. Had any problems with the Dodge? I have an aftermarket Banks turbo on my 7.3 that has over 200k miles on the turbo and still going strong.

My opinion is that a lot of people have unwarranted fears about turbos, probably because they do not understand them. Me, I doubt that I would own a newer diesel engine that didn't have a turbo on it. ;)

Just my :2cents:

I disabled my pto switch early on. If that clutch switch sticks Im ready.:D ... Had a severe momentary worry when I lost 4wd Fri while I was stirring the manure pile. I got stuck in the pile so I had to wait quite a while before I could recover it with little tractors and determine that it was external. The 4wdriveshaft had twisted off. Its the power!:D

Larry, is the driveshaft repairable, or do you have to get a whole new unit from Mahindra? If the ends are good, I would fix it myself.

Im buying new ... ~$194, but I will probably repair the old for a spare - splines are good. My thought is that even the very best repair will not be as good as the one that failed. We are talking a 1.150 inch diameter Gr8 or better strength shaft twisting back and forth at perhaps 80%+ of its torsional yield. Idont think the part has a large safety margin above what the engine is capable of in low gear. Ive never actually been able to link all of it to the ground thru the fronts, but real close by pushing and lifting. I think that shaft is called upon to transmit well over 2000ftlb on occasion. I plan to inspect the new shaft well and return it if there are any dings. If not, Ill polish out all the machine marks and peen and paint it before installation. I want to give it a good chance of long term survival.

Brian,
We're talking almost 5 years ago hindsight. Up to then, I only had experience with after market turbos on Mooney aircraft, which were labor intensive and had asbestos in them. I didn't like working on them back then. This was back when Banks was starting to put turbos on Ford pickups.

I guess you get a slide on this, but the same holds true for then and now, research, research, research. ;)

  Ok Ok I'm done, you win. ;) You know that my wife went to great extremes to do that whole thing with Doug. Had it mailed to Doug from Santa Barbara so that it would have the correct PO stamp zip code along with other things. It had him going for awhile. :D

Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving along with a happy holiday season.
