Just finished changing the fan belt on the 755, what a pain. I had to remove the alternator to do it. Any other ideas for the next time.

That doesn't sound so bad. ;)
Do you see any other way around it?

I did not, the alternator does not move toward the engine enough to get the belt on, but the sliding bracket works well once the belt is on.

Old thread worth a reply. The alternator dimensions are lacking few 1/16s here and there and thus it needs to be removed to get the belt back on because there isn't enough slack. Then the generator reinstall is a real bear because the bottom mounting thru bolt is about 1/16th too long to get it easily aligned to the bottom mounting and spacer and clear the radiator. It should have been a 30 minute job and it turned into much longer because of problems aligning the bolt with the alternator spacer and mounting holes. If anyone has found a good method to align the bottom mounting bolt through the alternator LMK. Nothing so easy should be made so difficult because of shortchanged dimensions.

I have the same problem with my 655. I'm going to try a longer belt. The correct belt is the Bando RPF 2345, which is 875mm long. I'm going to try a RPF 2355, which is 900mm long. There should be enough room on that sliding bracket that holds the alternator to take up the slack. I'll let you know how it works out.

Let us know how it works out.. think I'd go with the JD part # M800313 as the specs might make for a better fit. May be more to it than just the length.

Specification for M800313
Belt Section HA
Effective Length 34.488 IN
Width 0.433 IN
Thickness 0.315 IN
Angle 35
Material Spec C

I have installed the Bando RPF 2355, which is 1" longer than factory spec, on my 655. It slipped on with no problem and tightened up nicely. I have been running the tractor with no problems. Fan turns, alternator charges the battery. I don't know why it wouldn't work. The rpm's aren't that critical, they vary while the tractor is running anyway.
